Frequently Asked Questions

Certification is designed to be achievable. You likely qualify if you offer plant-based options across all meal periods for the duration of a typical guest stay, provide plant-based milk wherever dairy milk is available at no surcharge, and include at least one vegan dessert beyond fruit or sorbet. Not sure? Apply anyway. If adjustments are needed, we will tell you exactly what to change before any payment is due.
-
Certification assesses the full guest experience across your property. When completing the application, please provide all your dining and restaurant menus so we can evaluate the vegan experience across your entire food and beverage offering.
-
No. Most certified properties serve both plant-based and traditional menus. The standard requires genuine plant-based options, not an exclusively vegan offering.

Not exactly. Vegan Hospitality Certification sets a benchmark for vegan-friendly guest services and plant-forward dining. Our standard evaluates what's on the menu, how it's communicated, and how well a property serves vegan and plant-curious guests. The environmental benefits that come with shifting toward plant-forward food sourcing are real, but they're a byproduct of this work, not what we certify against. We don't make specific claims about carbon or emissions reductions on behalf of certified properties.
That said, if your property wants to build a credible sustainability case around actions taken to achieve certification, we can help you do that. We support certified hotels in developing their own case studies with the data and context to back them up.
-
No. The EU Empowering Consumers Directive targets green claims, specifically statements about environmental impact like carbon footprints, emissions reductions, or climate benefit. Vegan Hospitality Certification doesn't make those claims. Our standard is focused on menu coverage, plant-based options, and the quality of the vegan guest experience.
If a certified property chooses to make its own sustainability claims based on steps taken through the certification process, that's their decision to make, and they would need to ensure those claims meet applicable standards. We can help certified properties develop case studies that support substantiated, property-specific claims, but that's separate from what the certification itself asserts.
