Vegan Hospitality and ProVeg Launch Global Vegan Restaurant Study

Vegan Hospitality, in partnership with ProVeg International, has launched the Global State of the Vegan Restaurant Industry Study, a research project gathering insights from vegan restaurant owners and operators around the world.

Conversations about vegan restaurant closures have raised questions about the future of plant-based dining. Understanding the wider picture means hearing directly from the people running these businesses: what is working, what is challenging, and what would help them stay in business.

Through a global survey, we’re collecting operators’ experiences to better understand the factors they associate with success, struggles, and closures. The goal is to build a credible body of evidence that can inform industry reporting and guide practical support for vegan restaurants.

Participation is open to current and former owners, managers, and operators of fully vegan restaurants worldwide. We welcome experiences from businesses that are thriving, facing challenges, temporarily closed, or permanently closed. Restaurants that were previously fully vegan and have since added animal products are also invited to participate.

Led by Anna Karle, the project will share early findings at the Plant Food Systems Summit in Berlin in November 2026. A fuller report and public webinar will follow, providing insights for restaurant operators, journalists, and hospitality professionals interested in the future of vegan dining.

We also plan to use the findings to guide a consulting program for a small cohort of restaurants seeking support, helping us test which approaches are most useful in practice.

The survey takes approximately eight minutes and closes on November 1, 2026.

If you currently run, or previously ran, a vegan restaurant, we’d love to hear from you. If you know someone who does, please share the survey with them.
